Build a boat that you can get years of enjoyment out of For years I have enjoyed tinkering with things and building anything from signs, lawn accessories, utility trailers to boats.  My dream has always been to own my own business while incorporating all of these things in it.  I enjoy sharing my ideas and helping people to learn things that they can enjoy as I have enjoyed sharing them myself.  From little tricks to big projects.  My wife and kids  help me

as much as they can.  The kids like being the test pilots and my wife enjoys it when I am out of her hair.  I can’t image why!  I guess that we would not have electricity if Ben Franklin’s wife had not told him to go fly a kite.   In the picture above, I am the one in the front.  Bobby, the builder of the boat that we are in, is seated in the rear.  Special thanks goes to Bobby for allowing me to use pictures of his completed project.  All of my prints are built and proven before being offered, sometimes by myself, sometimes by others, sometimes both.  I hope to see you with your completed project one day as well.                                                           How to build a wooden boat

About this boat

This boat is built primarily of ¼” plywood and is 12 ft long.  The principal of this design is simple; once you have the understanding of how it is built, you can alter the design and build it the way you want.  It is easy to build an 8 ft. one-man style by simply not splicing the wood as we do with the 12 ft boat.  With a basic understanding of how this goes together, you can build one on your own.  The plans have a built-in live well but in this picture the builder decided not to use that option.  At first look you might think it takes a master carpenter to build something with so many curves and angles.  This isn't true.  I built my first boat at the age of 18 and had very little wood working experience.  No plans, just a picture in my head.  It was a real thrill to put it in the water and have it to work better than I had even hoped.  My tools were cheap and sparse but I found a way to build what I wanted.  The hard part was understanding how to build the bow block and the bottom cleat.  Once I had that, the rest was just wood working.  Click here to see a print on the bow and cleat assembly.  Here to see a sample text page.  It feels so good to get out on the water at daylight (after anticipating it all night) ready to fish in your new boat.  The water is still and glassy.  The water ripples smoothly as you paddle to that special spot that you have dreamed about, where the big fish are hungry and waiting to rip apart any lure that passes in front of it.  The morning mist brushes against your face.  No thought of work or problems; just you, your boat, the water, and the fish.  Suddenly, in the distance a BIG splash!  It is the big one.          That’s all for now.  It’s time to go fishing.
