Wooden snow sled blueprints

Order

Solid oak, with a high gloss finish for long lasting durability, this sled is designed to be a quality heirloom, as well as a fun toy.  The edges are rounded so splinters will not be a problem.  Steel runners and steel reinforcing rods to assure strong construction.  The steering system has hand holds with finger protectors, and is designed to allow only the movement necessary for steering, not over steering.  Also, I tried to eliminate pinch points.  If you are riding in a sitting position you can steer with your feet by placing your feet in the foot holds.  This system is built for safety and years of fun.  It is a good project for a father and child.  Spending time together in the shop building a speed machine that will create memories and be a part of family history forever.  This one hangs in my garage as a trophy for our work together and the memories of time spent together.
My Sledding Memory

Every year I prayed for a big snowfall!  When you live in the South snow is magical.  Finally one year my prayers were answered.  With about a foot of incredible fluffy, soft  snow on the ground, my best friend and I plotted an evening I will never forget.  We called all of the kids in the neighborhood and asked them to come over bringing anything they thought they could slide on.  We suckered her parents into helping build a huge bonfire and provide snacks (for 30 people)!  All that evening until midnight we took turns flying down the hill beside my friends home.  In between turns we toasted marshmallows, drank hot chocolate and danced to music.  It was easily one of the best nights of my life.     Carla
